SOLEAS workshop explores future value chains for solar photochemical production
How can solar photochemical processes contribute to resilient, regional and circular value chains? This question was at the centre of the interdisciplinary SOLEAS online workshop, bringing together experts from research, industry and the energy sector.
Together, participants explored potential applications of the SOLEAS technology and discussed how decentralised chemical production could be integrated into future value chains. Particular attention was given to the solar-based conversion of biogas CO₂ into ethene and nitrogen compounds into ammonia, as well as to potential applications in agriculture, biogas production and industry.
The workshop also focused on promising use cases and new business and prosumer models that could support the future implementation of the technology. The interdisciplinary exchange provided valuable perspectives for the further development of SOLEAS and its contribution to regional energy and circular value chains.
The workshop was organised by Green Tech Valley together with project coordinator AEE INTEC as part of the SOLEAS research project.
The SOLEAS project is carried out within the framework of the EIC Pathfinder, a Horizon Europe funding program that supports research teams in developing the scientific foundations for groundbreaking technologies. The focus is on early phases of scientific, technological, and deep-tech research and development. Since the EIC Pathfinder aims to open up new and future-oriented research and technology directions, relevant stakeholders are involved in the SOLEAS project from an early stage. Through stakeholder processes such as this workshop, the assessments, risks, potentials, and needs of key players are gathered. Based on this, possible prosumer concepts can be developed.
